Fun in the Bracken Kitchen

Since I have had the chance to solely be a homemaker and a stay at home mum I have discovered all the fun things to do around the house. One of them is baking. I LOVE baking! Its just so fun. So this year for Peter's birthday I decided to get fancy with his cake and made a REESES Peanut Butter cake. Its this yummy chocolate cake with peanut butter frosting. So tasty!

Laughs and giggles

Quinn has been giving us cute gummy smiles for almost three weeks now but so far I haven't been able to capture any on camara. We were playing with his stuffed puppy named Tangi and admists sweet squeals of delight I was finally able to get one of those smiles on camara. Its too cute not to share.

Bath Time!

Quinn's umbilical cord FINALLY came all the way off. As a result he got to have his first bath. I have been looking forward to this ever since he was born. And it was about time, you can only do so much with sponge baths! I don't know who had more fun, him or me! He was a little upset when I first put him in the water but after that he seemed very content and I even got a few smiles out of him :-)

Life with our little one

Being a mum is literrally the best thing ever! I love being responsible for our little guy...making sure he is fed, warm, healthy and happy no matter how sore or tired I get. Its worth it, especially when he decides to show off his gummy smiles, snuggles into me and makes those sweet cooing noises.

Seeing how great Peter is at being a father is another great part about having a baby. I love seeing them interact! It brings out a whole new side of him that I have never seen before and makes him even more amazing.

Tummy Time! Its so neat to see how much this little guy is learning and how strong he is getting. Its so fun to watch him when he is belly down as he tries to climb up the surface he is on; his little arms flailing and hands grasping as he tries to go higher.

Other Favourite Things

Quinn is so easy to please. He loves his swing, especially sleeping in it! He aslo enjoys laying on his playmat and is getting really good at swatting the fun toys hanging over him.

Baby Quinn

Wow, our son is already a week old. Time is going by so fast. I can't believe he is finally here. He brings so much joy into our lives. I am astounded about how much we are learning about life, love and the gospel...all from a tiny baby.

He is growing and eating well and last weighed in at 7lbs 9oz. He is very content to sit and study things when he is awake, especially stripes. He is such a fast learner too! He has already been able to roll onto his side. I just hope he doesn't grow up to fast.

Here are a few pictures we have taken. We haven't had much luck taking many good ones, most make him look like Alfred Hitchcock :-p Luckily, we are friends with a great photographer who took some awesome pictures of him today that really capture what he looks like so we will post those soon.

Quinn has arived!

Just a quick note here, there'll be plenty more to follow when Liz and I actually get time to fill everyone in on the details.
Quinn David Bracken was born at 2:12 pm Eastern Time, healthy and happy to two loving parents. After a quick wash-up and room change, he was measured at 21.25", 6 lb 15.8 oz, with a head circumference of 13.25". Liz did great through labor, which lasted only ten hours and only had to push for about 40 minutes.
More details and photos will come shortly as we get time and energy to put something together.

Oh, the Weather Outside is Frightful...

Today was the first real snowstorm of the season. It had snowed each of the previous two Sundays, but never really stuck around past the afternoon. We received about four inches of powdery snow, and we decided to celebrate by going into the field across from our apartment and making snow angels. We even made a baby bump print! Then we decided to walk down to the end of the pier and make a snowman. Unfortunately, the snow isn't good packing snow and so he ended up being more of a snowlump onto which we drew a face. :) Then we came back and enjoyed some hot chocolate. It really is begining to look alot like Christmas, finally!
